Electrical and Fire Safety Compliance for Schools

A school estate has several safety systems, different records and a limited number of convenient access windows. City PAT lists PAT testing, electrical installation condition reporting, fire risk assessment, fire alarm testing, emergency lighting testing and extinguisher servicing. We can discuss which of these services your school needs and how to organise the work across your buildings.

MULTI-SITE

Separate the jobs, coordinate the timetable

PAT addresses portable equipment; an EICR concerns fixed electrical installations. Fire risk assessment considers the premises and the people using them, while alarm, emergency lighting and extinguisher work relate to specific precautions. None of these reports substitutes for another. A practical starting point is your latest records, outstanding actions, building list and the person responsible for arranging access. Teaching rooms, kitchens, halls, workshops and outbuildings each create different access and use considerations. Tell us which spaces are shared with community groups, whether any buildings have their own management arrangements and which dates offer pupil-free access. The scope can then be agreed service by service.

Keep actions visible after the visit

Records are useful when someone is assigned to review findings, commission remedial work and confirm completion. The school or other legally responsible party retains its duties even when specialists carry out inspections. Use your fire risk assessment and competent advice to determine the appropriate precautions and maintenance schedule for each site.

Does a PAT certificate cover fire or fixed wiring compliance?

No. These are separate checks with separate scopes and records.
